Blazers Fall to William Carey 4-2 in Season Finale

Hattiesburg, MS- The Belhaven women's soccer team lost their final contest of the season to William Carey University 4-2 on Saturday night. The Blazers finished the season 6-11-1 and 4-8 in Southern States Athletic Conference play.

Ashley Allen of William Carey set up Courtney Brinson for the first score of the contest in 17th minute giving the Crusaders an early 1-0 lead. In the 29th minute, Krista Brienzo got the Blazers on the scoreboard with her fifth goal of the season off an assist by Christin Kaim which tied the score at one apiece. Courtney Brinson got her second goal of the contest right before the halftime break (43th) pushing the Crusaders back in front 2-1 at the half.

In the second half, Christin Kaim picked up her ninth goal of the 2011 campaign in the 61st minute evening the score up at 2-2. Courtney Brinson then answered Kaim's score with her third goal of the contest giving her a hat trick in the 78th minute. More importantly, it would prove to be the game winner as the Crusaders pulled ahead for good 3-2. Sasha Rodriguez added an insurance goal for William Carey to seal their victory in the 82nd minute.

Nicole Walsh dropped her 11th contest of the season earning six saves while allowing four goals in net. Gemma Layfield picked up the win for the Crusaders giving up two goals while picking up four saves.

Belhaven made strides in 2011 increasing their win total by five compared to 2010.
