Blazers Snap Two Game Losing Streak with win over Spring Hill College

Jackson, MS- The Belhaven women's soccer team gained a much needed victory on Saturday night to keep themselves in the hunt for post season play. The Blazers defeated Spring Hill College 2-0 to move into a tie for eighth place for playoff hopes in Southern States Athletic Conference Standings. The top eight teams in the final conference standings earn a spot in the conference tournament. Saturday's night victory also aided in the Blazers in snapping a two game losing streak bringing their season record to 6-8-1 and 4-5 in SSAC play.

Neither team managed to score in the first half Saturday night. Christian Kaim would score the only two goals in the contest with both coming in the second half. Kaim got things going in the 59th minute with her seventh score of the season giving the Blazers a 1-0 advantage. Kaim then connected with her second goal of the match on a breakaway thanks to a perfect pass from Rebecca Ontero in the 81st minute. Kaim's goal was a big insurance goal for the Blazers giving them 2-0 lead en route to a victory.
The Blazers outshot the Badgers 17-10 and Kaim got the most looks for the Blazers with seven shot attempts including four on goal. Following Kaim was Ontero with four shot attempts, two of which were on goal.

Tatiana Gonzalez led the Badgers in shot attempts with three with one being on goal.
Nicole Walsh gained her sixth win of the season picking up the shut out while getting two saves. Abby Massengale earned seven saves for the Badgers while giving up two goals as she received her 8th loss of the season.

Belhaven will be back in action on Tuesday as they take on Southern States Athletic Conference opponent Auburn University-Montgomery. Game time is slated for 5:00 PM. The contest will be the last home game of the 2011 regular season for the Blazers and this year's seniors will be honored prior to the match.
