Jackson, MS- The Belhaven men's soccer team earned another Southern States Athletic Conference win against Spring Hill College 1-0 at H.T. Newell Field Saturday night. The Blazers recorded the win after suffering a tough loss at Mobile on Tuesday night, but recovered with a victory that keeps them in fourth place in the SSAC standings.
The only goal of the match was on the foot of Guilhereme Sousa as he picked the perfect time for his first goal of the 2011 season.
Aaron McLoughlin set Sousa up nicely with a pass in the 38th minute for the score and in the process notched his team best 5th assist of the 2011 campaign. Belhaven's (12-2, SSAC 7-2) defense held the Badgers offensive scoreless on the night. The Blazers had trouble putting the ball away as they missed out on some other potential scoring opportunities. The Blazers unloaded 29 shot attempts, 11 of which were on goal. Spring Hill had some looks at the net as well firing 13 shot attempts with five on goal.
Alex Rodriguez saw the most shots with seven attempts.
Will Monsour followed Rodriguez in attempts with five while four different Blazers had a least three shot attempts a piece. (Brandao, Correra, McLoughlin, and Ferreira)
Mario Escalante led the Badgers in shot attempts with four, three of which were on goal.

Greg Hartley gained a win for the Blazers while obtaining five saves en route to another shutout, his 8th of the season. Cory Bronekamp received his fifth loss of the season for the Badgers giving up one goal and earning 10 saves.
Belhaven will be back in action on Tuesday at H.T. Newell Field. The contest will be the last home game of the regular season vs. Southern States Athletic Conference opponent Auburn University-Montgomery at 7:30 PM. Blazer fans come out and support your seniors on Tuesday night as they will be honored prior to the kickoff.
