Blazers Suffer First Loss of the Season to #21 Barry

Box Score
Jackson, TN-The Belhaven men's soccer team lost for the first time in 2010 dropping a 2-0 match to Barry University on Saturday afternoon. It was a contest between a pair of top 25 teams with Barry ranked 21st in the latest NCAA Division II Poll while the Blazers were ranked 8th in the latest NAIA Top 25 Poll heading into action on Saturday.

The match stayed scoreless through the first 34 minutes until Kendall Sealy of Barry blasted in his first goal of the season off an assist from Sean Trinidad. Sealy's shot beat Belhaven goalkeeper Gautier Troch up high making the score 1-0. Belhaven (10-1) unloaded three shots on goal in the opening 45 minutes of play, but Barry goalkeeper Johnny Rodrigues was up to the challenge turning away all three attempts.

Barry (3-1-2) added an insurance goal in the 80th minute as Mark Anderson found the back of the net from the top of the box increasing the Barry edge to 2-0. For Anderson, it was his fifth goal of the season and he was helped out on the score by Sealy and Glen Thomas who were issued assists on the play. The Buccaneers were efficient with their shots on goal Saturday scoring twice on just three total attempts. Barry unloaded just eight total shots in the game.

Belhaven just could not find a way to slip one past Rodrigues who made eight saves in the match for Barry in net. The Blazers outshot the Buccaneers in both total shots at 13-8 and shots on goal 8-3. Guilherme Brandao and Achille Campion had three shots each for the Blazers with one shot on goal apiece. Troch made one save in the contest as he dropped his first decision in net this season falling to 10-1.
