Blazers Kick off 2010 with Shutout of Louisiana College

Jackson, MS- The Blazers opened the 2010 season in high fashion defeating the Louisiana College Wildcats by a final score of 5-0 Thursday night at H.T. Newell Field. The Blazers out shot the Wildcats 30-0 and kept the ball in the Wildcats end of the field the entire game.

The Blazers dominated the Wildcats from the start scoring two goals in the first half and three in the second. Christin Kaim led Belhaven in goals with two, scoring the Blazers first goal of the 2010 season with just under three minutes gone by in the first half. Kimber Dear scored next in the 16th minute, followed by Krista Brizeno who scored at the 48:38 mark and was assisted by Morgan Ogale. The Blazers weren't finished yet as Kimber Dear assisted Christin Kaim with her second goal of the game and Elizabeth Moran rounded off the night scoring a goal off an assist by MaryBeth Patten.

Sarai Long got the start in net and earned the win running her record to 1-0 this season. Neither Long nor Kelli Brewer who came into the game late faced a shot from the Wildcats. Of the 30 total shots unloaded by Belhaven, 12 were on goal with five finding the back of the net for scores. Brizeno led the Blazers in shots with seven while Kaim added six in the match. Emily Breaux played all 90 minutes in net for Louisiana College and made seven saves.

Belhaven is undefeated at 1-0 while Louisiana College drops to 0-2 on the season. Catch the Blazers back in action on September 4, 2010 against Mid-America Christian University in Shreveport, LA at the LSU-Shreveport Tournament.
