Jackson, MS-The Belhaven men's soccer team controlled their match from start to finish with Louisiana College on Thursday night rolling to 8-0 victory at H.T. Newell Field. The Blazers outshot the Wildcats 45-0 and had 19 shots on goal. Louisiana College never mounted much of a threat on the offensive end the as Belhaven kept the ball pinned down in Louisiana College territory.
The Blazers didn't have to wait long for their first goal of the night as it came just over three minutes into the match.
Guilherme Brandao cashed in on his first score of the season off an assist by
Achille Campion. In the 13th minute
Aaron McLoughlin made it a 2-0 game and was assisted on the goal by
Stefan Fernandez. The Blazers would add one more score before the intermission as Brandao found the back of the net again and like the first score, Campion was credited with the assist.
In the second period, Belhaven (2-0) continued to wear down the Wildcats and eliminated any chance of a comeback early in the period.
Johnny Hayes extended the Belhaven lead to 4-0 in the 52nd minute on his first goal of the season.
Alex Rodriguez, who had both Blazer goals in the season opener, notched his first assist on the Hayes score.
Stefan Fernandez would be the next Blazer to find pay dirt drilling the ball past goalie Filip Linder in 60th minute and the a few second later hit the back of the net again to make it 6-0. Hayes was credited with the assist on the second score by Fernandez.
Belhaven then had the chance to get some younger players into the game late and the team did not miss a beat scoring two more times before the buzzer sounded.
Guilherme Sousa scored in the 76th minute off an assist by
Connor Jones and with just over three minutes to play
Felipe Ferreira recorded the first goal of his career bumping the final score to 8-0.
Brandao fired a team high nine shots including three on goal with two of those finding the back of the net for scores. McLoughlin had six shots and a score followed by Fernandez with three shots a two goals.
Gautier Troch got the win in net and did not face a shot as he improves to 2-0 on the season. Linder made 11 saves, but gave up eight goals as his record drops to 0-2 for Louisiana College (0-2).
Belhaven will be back in action at the LSU-Shreveport Tournament on Saturday and will battle the host school at 5:00 PM.
