Blazers Blast Talladega College

Box Score
Jackson, MS-The Belhaven men's soccer team capped off their week in fine fashion Saturday night at H.T. Newell field with a 10-0 win over Talladega College. The Blazers upset third ranked Embry-Riddle University 2-0 on Friday night and topped Lambuth University 1-0 in double overtime on Tuesday. Belhaven, ranked 17th in the latest NAIA Top 25 Poll, is a perfect 9-0 on the season.

Belhaven did not waste any time getting on the scoreboard as Stefan Fernandez delivered the first goal of the night 51 seconds into the match. Aaron McLoughlin was credited with the assist on the play. The Blazers struck again in the 11th minute when McLoughlin found the back of the net on a play that was set up by Guilherme Brandao and just like that it was 2-0. Brandao would score next in the 16th minute on a penalty kick and from there Belhaven never looked back. The Blazers tacked on six more first half goals and added another late in the second period as they cruised to the win.

Nine different Blazers had goals in Saturday's win including Simon Barinas who picked up a pair of scores to lead the offense. Other goal scorers in the match were Tom Cosgrave, Fernandez, Brandao, Chris Cave, McLoughlin, Jordan Francis, Guilherme Sousa and Felipe Ferreira. Brandao and Sousa were credited with a pair of assists each to lead Belhaven in that stat category.

On the season, Brandao leads the team in goals with six, points with 15, and is tied for the team lead in assists with three on the year. Gautier Troch started in goal and played the first 31 minutes and therefore is credited with the win running his record to 9-0. Andrew Simpson played almost 53 minutes in net and made the only save of the game for Belhaven who outshot the Tornadoes 31-1. The Blazers also had 19 shots on goal as a team.
