Blazers Lose Late at Millsaps College

Jackson, MS- It was an up and down battle for the Belhaven Women's soccer team Tuesday night as Millsaps College scored late in the game to come away with the win. The Blazers were defeated by a final score of 3-2 bringing their record on the season to 1-4. Millsap's College outshot Belhaven 10-7 with seven shots on goal while the Blazers shot six of their shots on goal.

Millsaps (5-1) struck first scoring at the 10:50 mark of the game on a goal by Jessica Harris who was assisted by Margaret Eggers. The Majors then scored again when Grace Gremillion found the bacl of the nest in the 18th minute. The Blazers didn't waste much time on the clock following up Millsaps goal with one of their own thanks to Saje Pernie's first goal of the 2010 season in the 19th minute. Belhaven had three total shots in the first and trailed 2-1 at halftime.

The Blazers kicked in the first goal of the second half tying the score with a goal from Krista Brizeno at the 57:39 mark of the game. For Brizeno, it was her third goal of the season. With the score now 2-2 the Blazers were in a tough battle until the 86th minute when the Majors scored what is considered the winning goal off the foot of Hayley Nemeth. It was the second consecutive heartbreaking 3-2 loss suffered by the Blazers

The Blazers were led on the night by Krista Brizeno with three shots, two of them on goal and a goal. Kelli Brewer started in the net clocked in all 90 minutes for the Blazers yet suffered the loss while turning in four saves on the night. Sarah Nelin started in goal for the Majors and tallied four saves bringing her record to 5-1 on the season.

The Blazers will be back in action on Saturday at H.T. Newell Field against Christian Brothers University. The game is set to begin at 6:00 PM.
