Tyler, TX- The Belhaven women's soccer team was defeated on Saturday at Texas College 3-2. The season has been up and down for the Blazers after beginning the year with win followed by three loses running their overall record to 1-3. The Blazers managed to outshoot Texas College 17-16 with shooting 10 of the shots on goal, but unfortunately Belhaven could not get at least two more of those shots to find pay dirt.
In the first half of the game both teams turned in two goals each, yet Texas College in the second half scored the winning goal late at the 83:13 mark in the game.
Krista Brizeno led the Blazers on the night with three shots on goal while scoring one. Brizeno's goal came in the 17th minute of the game followed by another goal from MaryBeth Webber assisted by
Christin Kaim in the 29th minute of the match.
Sarai Long played the first 15 minutes in the net for the Blazers, but
Kelli Brewer suffered the loss as she finished the game allowing two goals with three saves.
Texas College's first goal came was off the foot of Karla Valles who was assisted by Teresa Mosivais in the 4th minute of action. The next goal came at the 16th minute from Blanca Cardiel assisted by Teresa Mosivais and Leslie Arias. Valles knocked in the game winner in the 84th minute and was assisted on the play by Monsivais. Dian Martinez and Nancy Dominguez shared minutes at goalie while Dominguez had five saves and Martinez turned away three shots in the match.
The Blazers will be back in action on September 14, in Jackson, MS against Millsaps College at 7:30 p.m.
