Jackson, MS-Belhaven University and H.T. Newell Field will be the host site for one of four Southern States Athletic Conference opening round men's soccer tournament matches on Saturday afternoon. The Blazers finished second in the SSAC West with a conference mark of 3-0-2 and will host Southern Wesleyan University who finished third in the East division with an SSAC record of 3-2-1 while posting an overall record of 7-7-3.
Belhaven (14-1-2, 3-0-2 SSAC) played Southern Wesleyan on September 29th and came away with a 2-1 victory on a
Guilherme Brandao goal in the 56th minute that proved to be the difference in the match. Blazer's Head Coach Steve DeCou also picked up his 100th career coaching win that afternoon against the Warriors.
The other three opening round matchups have the University of Mobile hosting Lee University, Southern Polytechnic State entertains Spring Hill College, and Shorter plays host to William Carey University. Belhaven's showdown with Southern Wesleyan is scheduled to get underway at H.T. Newell Field on Saturday at 3:00 PM. The winner will move on to the SSAC semifinals which will be played in Gulfport, MS November 11th.
