Blazers Glide Past Spring Hill

Mobile, AL-The Belhaven men's soccer team notched another shutout victory on Saturday afternoon at Spring Hill College 4-0 in a Southern States Athletic Conference action. The Blazers, ranked 9th in the latest NAIA Coaches Top 25 Poll, scored a pair of goals in the first and second half en route to their eighth shutout win of the 2010 season.

Belhaven (12-1-1, 1-0-1 SSAC) got what proved to be the game winner off the foot of Jose Robles just over four minutes into the contest. It was Robles's second goal of the season and he has now scored in back to back games. Later in the first period, Stefan Fernandez notched the first of his two goals on the afternoon in the 27th minute.

Fernandez gave the Blazers a 3-0 lead in the 63rd minute when a corner kick by Guilherme Brandao glanced off Spring Hill goalie Dan Crisione and found the foot of Fernandez who slammed it into the back of the net for his eighth goal of the season. Brandao capped the scoring on a penalty kick in the 69th minute that pushed the lead to 4-0 in favor of Belhaven. Spring Hill's Caleb Townsend was called for a foul in the box which set up the penalty shot. Brandao now has 10 goals on the season and 26 points which are both team highs.

Spring Hill (3-9-1, 1-1-0 SSAC) stayed close to Belhaven in total shots with the Blazers owning a slight edge at 16-13. However, Belhaven unloaded nine shots on goal compared to only two for Spring Hill. Achille Campion led the Blazers in total shots with six including four on goal followed by Fernandez with three shots. Gable Fortune had three of Spring Hill's 13 looks at the goal during the contest. On the season, Belhaven has outshot their opponents 279-138.

Crisione played all 90 minutes in net for the Badgers and made five saves. Gautier Troch made a pair of saves and with the win runs his record in goal to 12-1-1.

Belhaven will be back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Auburn University-Montgomery for another SSAC contest. The kickoff is slated for 3:00 PM.
