Lady Blazers Battle Millsaps to a Scoreless Tie

Official Stats
Jackson, MS-Defense was the name of the game on Friday night when the Belhaven women's soccer team met up with Millsaps at Harper Davis Field as the match ended in a 0-0 2OT tie. Both teams had a number of shots in the game, but none of the attempts found the back of the net.

Belhaven (3-1-1) was aggressive on offense especially in the first half when they forced Millsaps (4-1-1) goalkeeper Sarah Nelin to make six saves. The Lady Blazers attempted a total of 10 shots in the first half. The Lady Majors had one shot on goal in the first 45 minutes of the game and recorded a total of seven in the first period but none posed a serious threat to the Lady Blazer defense.

In the second half, each team struggled to come up with scoring opportunities as both teams played solid defense around the net. Millsaps kept the ball on Belhaven's side of the field more effectively in the second period and outshot the Lady Blazers 8-6. Millsaps' Meredith Harris made a bid to put the Lady Majors on top late in the second half on a free kick following a foul by Evelyn Torres. However, Belhaven goalkeeper Jessica Eggold was able to make the save and the game remained scoreless going into the overtime.

The Lady Blazers dominated both over time periods as far as shot attempts, but failed to find pay dirt with any of them. Belhaven attempted seven shots; however none of them forced Nelin to make a save. Megan Sullivan had the final shot of the game for the Lady Majors in the final minute, but it was turned away by Eggold preserving the tie.

Nicole Trawick led the offensive attack with seven total shots including two on goal for Belhaven. Christin Kaim had four shots with three being on goal and Sarah Benson also attempted four shots in the match. Jessica Harris and Leslie Robichaux each had four shot attempts for Millsaps while Meredith Harris had the most shots on goal with two.

Belhaven will return to action on Wednesday night at home against NCAA Division II Delta State University beginning at 5:00 PM. Wednesday's contest is scheduled to be played at H.T. Newell Field.
