Mobile, AL-The Belhaven men's soccer battled 10
th ranked Embry Riddle University Friday night in what needless to say were challenging conditions and lost by a score of 1-0. The match was played at the University of Mobile on the Rams practice field because the game field was unplayable due to heavy rainfall in the last couple of days. The practice field was also very wet which presented some major challenges to both squads.
The only goal of the game came just over 13 minutes into the contest when Ryan Maloney of Embry Riddle (6-1) fired the ball past Belhaven goalkeeper
Zach Wallace. Matthias Klatt and Sam Litchfield were each credited with an assist on the play.
Belhaven (3-2) had some chances to get on the board especially in the second half when they outshot Embry Riddle 6-3 with three of them being on goal. However, Eagle goalkeeper Viktor Bergstrand was up to the challenge as he kept the ball out of the net and earned five saves. Wallace picked up six saves in the match for Belhaven, but unfortunately allowed the only goal of the contest.
Offensively for the Blazers,
Alan Hannon had the most looks at the net as he unloaded a total of seven shots with four being on goal.
Juan Rodriguez was limited to two shots on the night by the Embry Riddle defense.
Belhaven will return to action on Saturday against the University of Texas-Brownsville beginning at 2:00 PM. The match will be played at the University of Mobile.
