Blazers Match with UT-Brownsville Ends in a Draw

Official Stats
Mobile, AL-The Belhaven men's soccer team met up with the University of Texas-Brownsville Saturday afternoon and played to a 3-3 tie on day two of the University of Mobile Tournament. For the second day in a row, both teams battled with wet conditions on the playing field due to heavy rain, but unlike Friday night's game it didn't seem to affect the offense.

Jose Morales
Belhaven (3-2-1) struck first in the match at the 10 minute mark on Philip Forsman's first goal of the season. Alan Hannon picked up the assist which was his third of the 2009 season. UT-Brownsville rallied 14 minutes later with their first goal of the match coming off the foot of Fredrik Ekvall. Evans Frimpong got the assist on the game tying goal.

The Blazers jumped back on top in the 40th minute thanks to an unassisted goal by Jose Morales. It was the first time Morales has found the back on the net this season for the Blazers. Belhaven's defense kept UT-Brownsville off the board the rest of the first half and took a 2-1 lead into the intermission.

In the 63rd minute UT-Brownsville knotted the score at 2-2 on a goal by Enrique Rivera which was set up by Robin Ejdeholm who got in the scorebook with an assist. With about eight minutes to go in the match, UT-Brownsville took the lead for the first time with their third goal of the game. This time Mario Perez was able to blast the ball past Blazer goalie Gautier Troch and at that point things didn't look good for Belhaven down 3-2.

Fortunately, Juan Rodriguez had an answered for the Blazers two minutes later with his team leading sixth goal of the year. Rodriguez made the play without the aid of an assist. The final six minutes of the game expired with neither team scoring another goal and the match ended a 3-3 tie.

Rodriguez, Forsman, and Morales led the Belhaven offense with a goal each while Rodriguez fired off the most shots with four. As a team, the Blazers were outshot by UT-Brownsville 20-10, but managed to get three of them by goalkeeper Juan Gamboa. Gamboa ended up making four saves for UT-Brownsville while Troch turned away two shots in his first start of the season in net for Belhaven. Abass Ayembillah, Evans Frimpong, and Mario Perez each attempted four shots for UT-Brownsville.

The Blazers will take the field again on Wednesday as they return home to battle NCAA Division II Delta State University at H.T. Newell Field. The kickoff is slated for 7:00 PM.
