Official Stats
Jackson, MS-The Belhaven men's soccer team lost a tough 1-0 match to rival William Carey University in Gulf Coast Athletic Conference action Wednesday night at H.T. Newell. The Crusader's are ranked 18th in the latest NAIA Top 25 poll while Belhaven came into the night ranked one spot behind at number 19. The Blazers had a couple of chances to put goals on the board, but couldn't capitalize.

Wednesday night's match remained scoreless through the first 45 minutes as both defenses held strong. Belhaven's (6-3-2, 0-1) best chance at a goal came in the 29th minute as Juan Rodriguez blasted a shot off the right post and just under a minute later Aaron McLoughlin's bid at a goal sailed high and out of play.

Rodriguez had another crack at the goal 10 minutes into the second half, but William Carey (7-2-2) goalkeeper Sean Mapson made a great save to keep the match scoreless. Two minutes later, the Crusaders got deep into the Belhaven zone and Reece Wilson made his only shot of the match count as he sliced the ball past goalie Zach Wallace for what would prove to be the only goal of the night. Tito Salas was credited with the assist on the Crusader goal.

The Blazers had one final shot at the goal with nine seconds left to play on a free kick following a William Carey foul by Medy Lorius. However, Matt Clifton's shot sailed into the arms of goalie Sean Mapson who made the save and secured the 1-0 victory for William Carey.

The Crusaders outshot Belhaven 16-12 including a 5-4 advantage in shots on goal. The Blazers were led in shots by John Kehoe with three including two on goal. Salas had four shots for the Crusaders and an assist on the night with Wilson chalking up the lone goal. Wallace made four saves in net for the Blazers as did Mapson for William Carey.

Belhaven will take the field again this weekend as they travel to Central Baptist College for a non-conference match Saturday afternoon. The kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
