Lady Blazers and Coach Sabillon Get First Wins of 2008

Box Score
Jackson, Miss.
- Belhaven College women's soccer hit the road over last weekend to take on Tennessee Temple University in Chattanooga, Tennessee and then Covenant College in Lookout Mountain, Georgia.  The Lady Blazers were dominant on Friday and recorded a 10-0 shut-out of the home standing Lady Crusaders and then, on Saturday, were able to top the Lady Scots by a score of 2-1.  The wins were the first of Coach Josue Sabillon's Belhaven coaching career.

On Friday, the Lady Blazers outmatched their opponent.  They scored their first goal of the contest  in the 6th minute of the match and added goal after goal to take a 6-0 advantage into halftime.

The second period saw much of the same as the first, as the Lady Crusaders could not handle the Blazers' potent offensive attack.  Belhaven would go on to score 4 more goals in the contest for the double digit victory.

Seven players found the back of the net for Belhaven, including Juniors Nicole Trawick and Dana Sullivan, and Freshman Krista Brizeno who had two goals apiece. Juniors Evelyn Torres, Sarah Benson, and Samantha Breland each had goals in the contest, while Christin  Kaim added a goal and two assists.  Brizeno, Benson, and Mallory Hodges also recorded assists.

Saturday, the team was able to come from behind  to claim a 2-1 victory over the Lady Scots of Covenant College.  The Lady Scots slipped one by the Blazers' defense to take a 1-0 lead midway through the first half, but Belhaven responded just before halftime with a goal from Nicole Trawick to tie the match at 1 goal apiece.

In the second half, Covenant had many opportunities but could not capitalize.  However,  Belhaven was able to make a little more out of their offensive attempts than their opponent.  Dana Sullivan scored what proved to be the game winner with 12 minutes remaining in the contest when she hit a perfect shot underneath the crossbar to make the score 2-1.

Belhaven will look to turn 2 wins into a streak on Saturday, September 6th as they take on Louisiana College. Game time is slated for 5:00pm.
