Jackson, Miss. – Belhaven College Men's soccer hit the road this weekend to take on Tennessee Temple University in Chattanooga, TN and then Covenant College in Lookout Mountain, GA. The Blazers defense was stellar on Friday as they beat the TTU Crusaders 2-0. The contest was a little more tight between the Scots and the Blazers, as neither team could break a 1-1 tie during two overtimes.
On Friday, the Blazers dominated the offensive flow for the majority of the game. Right from the kickoff the Blazers moved the ball down the field, deep inside of the 18 yard box and
Juan Rodriguez, a Junior from Kenner, LA, beat his defender and was able to shoot it past Scots goalkeeper Austin Cochrane in the first minute of the game. The young Crusader team struggled to get any kind of offense developed against the Blazers and the score remained 1-0 at the break.
The second half was much like the first, with the Blazers allowing the Crusaders very few offensive opportunities. Later in the contest, a freshmen from Jackson, MS,
Mabior Yai scored off of a free kick from the opposite post by
Alan Hannon to make the score 0 – 2.
Saturday, the Blazers tied the Scots 1-1. In the first half the Blazers took the lead 1-0 on a great finish by Sergie Yepishin on a brilliant cross from
Matt Welch with a little over 5 minutes before the half time break. Covenant College equalized the match with 7:00 minutes remaining and the two teams battled through two extra periods without a winner being determined.
This Saturday, September 6th, the Blazers will be in their own backyard as they will take on the Louisiana College Wildcats. Game time is slated for 7:00pm.
