Blazers Look for Third Win at Campbellsville

Campbellsville, KY-The Belhaven football team returns to action Saturday at Campbellsville in search of their third victory on the season. The Blazers had a tough start to 2008 losing their first four games, but have battled back the last two weeks with wins over Faulkner University and West Virginia Tech. The Blazers currently own an overall record of 2-4 and 2-1 in the Mid-South Conference.

The Tigers come into Saturday's matchup at 1-5 overall and 1-1 in conference play. Campbellsville lost a high scoring contest against UVA-Wise 61-41 last week and two weeks ago played Shorter College tough but came up short 24-14.

The Tigers are led by running back Greg Fountain who averages 123 yards per game on the ground. That is good for 4th in the NAIA in yards per contest. Fountain is also 5th in the country in touchdowns and scoring per contest. The Campbellsville air attack is anchored by Ross Deaton and his 222 yards passing a game. Overall, the Tigers have the 13th ranked offense in the NAIA when it comes to yards per game at 430.

Defensively, Trapper Williams leads the team in total tackles with 43, including four for losses. However, the defense for Campbellsville is surrendering just over 503 yards of total offense each week to the opponent. On paper, Saturday's game could prove to be another offensive shootout.

Belhaven is fresh off a dramatic come from behind victory against West Virginia Tech last week 29-27. Justin Miller hit a 44 yard field goal as time expired to secure the win. The field goal was set up by two key passes by Jerred Wallace with less than minute to play to put the Blazers in position for the win. Wallace has been outstanding over the last couple of games including last week as he completed 28 of 53 passes for 355 yards and two touchdowns. Belhaven is the 17th ranked team in the NAIA when it comes to passing yard per game at just under 268 per afternoon.

The Belhaven defense has continued to play aggressive putting pressure on the quarterback and creating turnovers. The Blazers forced two interceptions and a fumble last week against the Golden Bears. Eric Ortiz had a solid game with eight more tackles while Brian Edwards and Jordan Snipes came away with the interceptions. Ortiz has 6.5 sacks in five games played which ranks him number 2 in the NAIA in sacks per game at 1.3. As a team, the Blazers are second in the country hauling down the opposing quarterback 4.3 times per outing.
