Lady Blazers Season Ends against William Carey

Hattiesburg, MS-After a great stretch run, the Belhaven women's soccer team saw their season come to a close Friday night falling in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference game to William Carey University 7-1. The Lady Blazers end their season with an overall record of 11-7-1.William Carey improves to 14-3-1 and will move onto the NAIA National tournament.
 
Belhaven fell behind 4-0 after 25 minutes of play and couldn't overcome a relentless offensive attack by the Lady Crusaders. William Carey fired 18 total shots and with 13 of those being on goal. The Lady Blazers mustered only eight shots and only two of them were on goal.
 
The Lady Crusaders had scored four goals before Belhaven finally got on the board in the second half. Nicole Trawick had the only score of the night in the 57th minute against William Carey goalie Jordan Morrison and the Lady Crusader defense. It was Trawick's ninth goal and 18th point of the season.
 
Whatever momentum the Lady Blazers may have gained was wiped out five minutes later as Shannon Steffen scored William Carey's fifth goal of the night. They would then go on to score two more goals before time expired. Jeana Erickson had a big night recording a hat trick with three goals and an assist for the Lady Crusaders.
 
Despite the loss, the Lady Blazers made great strides this season under first year head coach Josue Sabillon after going 5-12 overall and 0-8 in the GCAC a year ago. Next year should be another exciting season for Belhaven women's soccer.
