Jackson, MS-It was a tough night at H.T. Newell field Wednesday, as Belhaven lost to LSU-Shreveport in their Gulf Coast Athletic Conference opener 2-1. All the scoring took place in the first half with the Lady Pilots opening up a 2-0 lead on goals by Dorrie Vaughn and Alicia Marshall. Vaughn's goal came at the 1:13 mark of the first half followed by Marshall's strike 25 minutes later.
The Lady Blazers would get their only score of the game in the 28
th minute as
Dana Sullivan found the back of the net for her 5
th goal of the season. The second half was dominated by defense as neither team could muster any further offense. LSU-Shreveport goalkeeper Amber Salvucci made six saves in net to help preserve the win for the Lady Pilots.
The loss puts Belhaven's overall record at 6-3 and 0-1 in GCAC play. The Lady Blazers will try and regroup Saturday afternoon in a non-conference matchup with Shorter College. The game will be played in “The Bowl” on Belhaven's campus beginning at 4:30.
