William Carey Too Much for Lady Blazers

Hattiesburg, MS-William Carey scored early and often Tuesday night in a 6-2 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference victory over Belhaven. The Lady Blazers fall to 8-6-1 overall and 1-4-1 in the GCAC. The Lady Crusaders remain unbeaten in the GCAC with a perfect 6-0 record and an overall mark of 11-2-1.
 
It didn't take long for William Carey to get on the board as Jeana Erickson connected in the third minute to make it 1-0. Belhaven answered back as Evelyn Torres fired in her fifth goal of the season and the score was deadlocked at 1-1. Krista Brizeno picked up her third assist of the year on the goal by Torres.
 
The Lady Crusaders then proceeded to real off four straight goals to build a 5-1 lead. In the 67th minute the Lady Blazers scored their second and final goal of the night as Dana Sullivan found the back of the net for the eighth time this season. Sarah Benson ws credited with the assist, which was her second on the year.
 
Shots were numerous for both teams as Belhaven attempted a total of 16 while William Carey launched 21 with 14 of those being on goal. Belhaven goalie Kristin Parson made eight saves in the match.
 
The Lady Blazers go on the road again this Saturday when they travel to LSU-Shreveport for another GCAC match. The kickoff is slated for 4 PM.
