Philadelphia, PA-Belhaven wide receiver Cordario Calvin inked an NFL free agent contract on Wednesday with the Philadelphia Eagles. Calvin is the third Blazer in the last two years to sign NFL contracts. Tramaine Brock and Jacob Phillips both signed free agent deals following the 2009 season.

Calvin, a senior from Greenville, MS, led Belhaven in 2010 with 10 touchdowns, 805 total yards receiving, and averaged 80.5 yards per game. Calvin also had one rushing touchdown in 2010. Calvin and teammate Kevin Dizer tied for second in the MSC with 57 total receptions and Calvin ranked 6th in the league in total touchdowns and third in the conference in receiving yards per game. His numbers would have been even higher, but he was limited at times during the season due to an injury.

In two seasons at Belhaven, Calvin caught 142 passes for 1,833 yards and hauled in 22 total touchdowns. He averaged 87.3 yards per game 12.9 yards per catch, and 6.8 receptions per game over his two year career. Calvin also made his mark in the Belhaven record books ranking 6th in school history in career receiving yards (1,833), 7th in single season receiving yards (1,028 in 2009), 4th in career receptions (142), 2nd in single season receptions (85 in 2009), and 2nd in career receiving touchdowns (22).

“I am very proud of what Cordario has accomplished,” says Belhaven Head Coach Joe Thrasher. “We knew he was a special player and I wish we could have had him healthy for us all last season. He had over 800 yards receiving and did not play in every game. He has worked hard to get himself in shape mentally and physically. I look forward to watching him and Tramaine Brock, who is with the San Francisco 49ers, go through this pre season process.”
