Jackson, MS-The Belhaven football team turned in an impressive showing on Saturday night as the Blazers dominated Texas College 58-3 for their first win of 2010. Belhaven rolled up 462 yards of total offense while holding the Steers to only 59 total yards in the contest. The Blazers had three rushing touchdowns on the night which matched their season total from a season ago. Overall, it was a balanced attack on the offensive side of the ball with 172 yards coming on the ground and 290 through the air.

Jackson, MS-The Belhaven football team will embark on the 2010 season on Saturday night when they travel to Tyler, TX to battle the Texas College Steers. The Blazers are coming off a 2009 campaign which saw the team finish 6-5 overall and placed second in the Mid-South Conference Western Division at 4-2.

Expectations are higher for the 2010 season as the Belhaven football program looks to take the next step and battle for a Mid-South Conference championship. It’s certainly safe to say that the Blazers and Head Coach Joe Thrasher got things rolling in the right direction in 2009 finishing the year with an overall record of 6-5 and took second place in the Mid-South Conference Western Division with a mark of 4-2. It was the programs first winning season since 2006 and a vast improvement over the teams 2-9 finish in 2008.

Louisville, KY-The Belhaven football team was picked to finish in a tie for 5th in the Mid-South Conference Western Division in this years conference preseason poll as voted on by the conference coaches. University of the Cumberlands was picked as the favorite to win the Western Division with 36 points and six of seven first place votes. Shorter University was chosen second with 27 points. Belhaven and Union College (KY) each had 18 points with the Blazers receiving one first place vote.
