Louisville, KY-The Belhaven football team was picked to finish in a tie for 5th in the Mid-South Conference Western Division in this years conference preseason poll as voted on by the conference coaches. University of the Cumberlands was picked as the favorite to win the Western Division with 36 points and six of seven first place votes. Shorter University was chosen second with 27 points. Belhaven and Union College (KY) each had 18 points with the Blazers receiving one first place vote.

Head Coach Joe Thrasher and the Belhaven football team got things rolling in the right direction in 2009 as the Blazers finished the year with an overall record of 6-5 and took second place in the Mid-South Conference Western Division with a mark of 4-2.
