ATLANTA - Belhaven scored three times in the opening 30 minutes, but No. 4 Emory rallied to hand the Blazers a 5-3 loss Saturday night at the Woodruff P.E. Center.
Wyatt Dupre put Belhaven in front just 92 seconds into the match. The junior struck again in the 22nd minute to double the Blazers' advantage for his first career two-goal match.
Belhaven nearly added another moments later, but Emory goalkeeper Geoffrey Halpern stopped a pair of shots from
Courtland Williams.
Ivan Quiñones made it 3-0 at the 29:15 mark with his first goal of the season. The Eagles responded quickly, getting goals from Jeremiah Cateau in the 32nd minute and Josh Ali in the 40th to cut Belhaven's lead to 3-2 at halftime.
Charlton McMorris made back-to-back saves in the final minute of the half to preserve the lead heading into the break.
Emory pulled even at 50:40 when Logan Steren scored off an assist from Emre Evran. Belhaven was reduced to 10 players following a red card in the 55th minute but kept the match tied for more than 30 minutes.
Graham Harris recorded both of Belhaven's second-half shots, and the Blazers earned consecutive corner kicks in the 81st minute while searching for a go-ahead goal. The Eagles broke through in the 87th minute when Jack Yough scored off assists from Ali and Landon Redding. Ewen Robertson added the final goal with 72 seconds remaining.
Dupre led Belhaven with two goals on two shots. Quiñones scored once on two attempts, while Williams placed both of his shots on goal.
The Blazers return to action later this weekend against Oglethorpe in Atlanta. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. CT.
