JACKSON, Miss. - Ricardo Flores scored the opening goal and assisted on the second as Belhaven shut out LaGrange, 2-0, Saturday afternoon at Belhaven Bowl Stadium.

The Blazers won their fifth straight match and opened Collegiate Conference of the South play with a victory. Belhaven improved to 5-4-1 overall and 1-0 in the CCS.

LaGrange generated several early chances, but Justin Ramirez kept the match scoreless with three saves in the opening 14 minutes. He stopped back-to-back attempts from Jacob Sagstuen before turning away Olufunmilayo Said in the 14th minute.

Belhaven settled into the match and began creating opportunities of its own. Ciaran Colvin forced a save in the third minute, and Courtland Williams, Isaiah Tye and Wyatt Dupre followed with attempts.

Flores tested LaGrange goalkeeper Braeden Hayes in the 30th minute before breaking through at 31:39 to put the Blazers in front. Ramirez made another save eight minutes later, preserving the 1-0 advantage going into halftime.

Belhaven controlled the opening stages of the second half. Williams and Miguel Magagnin put shots on frame in the first six minutes, Diego Sarzalejo forced another save in the 57th and Dupre tested Hayes again in the 63rd.

LaGrange pushed for an equalizer, but Ramirez stopped Sagstuen's shot in the 76th minute for his fifth save of the match.

The Blazers put the result away at 80:51. Flores created the chance, and Adrian Sanchez finished it for his fifth goal of the season and a 2-0 Belhaven lead.

Belhaven outshot LaGrange, 19-11, including a 12-5 advantage in the second half. The Blazers placed eight shots on goal and held the Panthers to five. Both teams earned three corner kicks.

Williams led Belhaven with five shots, while Dupre recorded three. Flores finished with two shots, two attempts on goal, a goal and an assist. Ramirez played all 90 minutes and made five saves as the Blazers recorded their second shutout of the season.

Belhaven has outscored its opponents, 20-4, during its five-match winning streak.

The Blazers return to Belhaven Bowl Stadium on Tuesday, Sept. 29, for the Riverside Derby against Millsaps. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
