JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven Men's Tennis team hit the court on Wednesday with a dominant 7-0 sweep of Holmes Community College at Parham Bridges.
The Blazers controlled the match from the start, sweeping all three doubles courts to secure the opening point.
Josiah Leggett and
Briley Oakes led the way at No. 1 with a 6-1 win, while
Jesus Diaz and
Bernard Jackson followed with a 6-0 victory at No. 2.
Mark Breedlove and
Jack Madden completed the sweep with another 6-0 decision at No. 3.
Belhaven carried that momentum into singles play, winning all six matches in straight sets. Leggett set the tone with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 1, while Madden matched that effort with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 2. Breedlove earned a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 3, and
Paul Stager followed with a 6-6, 6-1 win at No. 4.
Jackson remained one of the team's most consistent performers this season, improving to 3-1 in singles play with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 5.
Ashton Vasquez closed out the sweep with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 6.
The Belhaven women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to Holmes Community College on Wednesday afternoon. Holmes claimed the doubles point, taking all three courts including two by default, to jump out to an early lead.
In singles play, Belhaven picked up two points.
Evey Moore earned a 6-4 victory at No. 3 singles, while the Blazers also received a win by forfeit at No. 5.
Arica Eason delivered one of the most competitive matches of the day at No. 4, battling into a third-set super tiebreak before falling just short.
Rebekah Nichols and
Millie Gallarno competed at the top of the lineup, while Holmes secured the remaining points to close out the team result.
The Blazers begin conference play at Piedmont on Friday. The first match begins at 1:00 PM.
