Blazers Tennis Opens Conference Play at Piedmont

Demorest, Ga. - The Belhaven Men's & Women's Tennis teams opened Collegiate Conference of the South play on Friday, both falling 7-0 on the road at Piedmont.

Despite the final score, the men's team was competitive early, particularly in doubles play. At No. 1, Jesus Diaz and Josiah Leggett pushed their match to the brink before falling 7-6, marking Belhaven's closest opportunity to a win.

Piedmont secured the doubles point with wins at all three positions and carried that momentum into singles.

In singles play, Harshith Anugonda delivered a strong effort at the top spot, battling to a 7-5 first set before ultimately falling in straight sets. Briley Oakes also remained competitive at No. 5, while Stephen Spencer, who has been one of Belhaven's most consistent performers this season with a team-best five singles wins, competed at No. 4.

Piedmont claimed all six singles courts to complete the sweep, handing the Blazers their first conference loss of the season.

The women's team also opened CCS play on Friday, dropping a 7-0 decision at Piedmont.

Piedmont claimed the doubles point with wins at all three positions. Millie Gallarno and Evey Moore led the Blazers at No. 1 doubles, while Rebekah Nichols and Arica Eason competed at No. 2.

In singles play, Nichols highlighted the afternoon with a competitive match at No. 2, pushing the second set to a tiebreak before falling 7-6. Moore also battled at No. 3, while Eason faced a tough matchup at No. 4.

Piedmont secured the remaining points across the lineup to complete the sweep.

Belhaven falls to 0-13 on the season and 0-1 in CCS play. Despite the result, the Blazers continue to gain experience against strong competition, including earlier matches this season against multiple regionally-ranked opponents. The team has shown signs of progress throughout the spring, including a three-point outing against MUW and multiple competitive singles performances in recent matches.

The Women's team will continue conference play tomorrow at Agnes Scott with the first match beginning at 11:00 AM. The men's team will wait a few days before taking on Huntingdon on Thursday at 1:00 PM.
