Blazers Open up 2026 with Win at Agnes Scott

DECATUR, Ga. - Belhaven Women's Basketball used a dominant second quarter and a decisive fourth-quarter surge to secure an 80-60 road win on Friday night at Agnes Scott. The Blazers improved to 8-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play.

The opening quarter featured early turnovers and missed shots on both sides before Belhaven settled in. Katelyn Coleman opened the scoring at the free-throw line, and Allison Liddell followed with a layup to give the Blazers a 4-0 lead. Veronica Williams knocked down a three-pointer at the 8:18 mark to cap a 7-0 run and force an early response.

After the home team briefly took the lead midway through the quarter, Belhaven answered behind its bench. Jasi Jenkins scored on a pair of tip-ins and finished inside twice in the final minute. Kamren Edwards added a putback with 1:15 remaining, and Jenkins scored again in the closing seconds as Belhaven closed the quarter on a 10-0 run to lead 17-11.

Belhaven took full control early in the second. Coleman and Jenkins converted on the break to extend the lead, and Williams buried another three-pointer at the 8:18 mark to make it 25-12. Over a six-minute span, the Blazers used pressure defense and quick outlet passes to build a 14-1 run, pushing the margin to 29-12.

Savannah Hailey sparked another surge late in the half with a jumper and a fast-break layup. Kiersten Hudson added a basket in the paint, and Belhaven closed the half scoring 12 of the final 15 points. The Blazers entered the locker room ahead 41-19 after outscoring the home team 24-8 in the quarter.

Momentum shifted early in the third as Belhaven went cold from the floor. The home team opened the half with a series of fast-break baskets and free throws, cutting into the lead. A 12-2 run trimmed the margin to 43-25 before Hailey stopped the run with a transition jumper at the 7:19 mark.

Despite the response, the home team continued to chip away. A three-pointer with 2:34 remaining pulled the deficit down to 12. Jenkins answered late with a tip-in, and Williams added two free throws in the final minute as Belhaven stabilized and carried a 52-39 lead into the fourth.

Belhaven quickly shut the door in the final period. Ny Jones opened the quarter with a jumper, and Jenkins followed with a fast-break layup. Hudson scored inside, and Williams added another basket in the paint as the Blazers ripped off an 11-0 run to extend the lead to 62-39.

The Blazers were not finished. Williams drilled a three-pointer at the 6:19 mark, and Jones scored twice in transition to push the margin past 25. Coleman and Jones connected on back-to-back fast-break layups midway through the quarter as Belhaven stretched the lead to 76-46. The Blazers led by as many as 30 before closing out the final minutes.

Jasi Jenkins led Belhaven with 15 points off the bench, while Savannah Hailey and Veronica Williams scored 13 points apiece. Belhaven finished with 32 bench points and 18 second-chance points.

The Blazers continue their Georgia road trip with a game at Wesleyan College tomorrow afternoon. Tip-off is set for 1:00 PM.
