JACKSON - The Belhaven Women's Soccer team took down Piedmont 2-0 on Saturday with a pair of second half goals that secured an important conference victory for the Blazers.

The first half saw Belhaven rack up the better of the chances, with two shots from distance forcing the Piedmont goalkeeper into a pair of saves. The best chance of the first half came on a deflected free kick from Emma Antonoplos that dropped in front of the goal line but no Blazers were able to nudge it home.

After the first half went scoreless, Belhaven upped the pressure in the second half and found the break through just before the hour mark. Micah Benson headed home from a thrown in and picked up her third goal of the season.

The Blazers then doubled their lead in the 74th minute as Alexis Whiting got her fifth goal of the year and continued her strong run that saw her earn CCS Rookie of the Week honors last week.

Addi Roberts would come up big late in the second half as she made a trio of saves that kept Piedmont off the board.

The win marks back-to-back victories for the Blazers in conference play and improves their overall record to 5-3-2 on the season.

Next up for the Blazers is a trip to Georgia to take on LaGrange in midweek action. Kickoff Wednesday is set for 4:00 PM.
