JACKSON - The Belhaven Men's Soccer team secured its second shutout in the last three games, defeating Lyons 1-0 on Friday night at Belhaven Stadium.
The Blazers (4-1-2) capitalized in the 35th minute when Lyon had a hand-ball in the square, resulting in a penalty kick.
Matt Smith took the kick, which was saved, but scored on the rebound from the stop.Â
Belhaven's defensive unit, anchored by goalkeeper
Danny Bahena, kept Lyon off the scoreboard despite nine total shots. Bahena finished with four saves for his 11th career shutout.
The Blazers matched Lyon with nine shots of their own, putting five on the net.
Ciaran Colvin and
Graham Harris put quality shots on net, but it was Smith's shot that proved to be the game-winner.
The Blazers hit the road for their next match at a neutral site against Sewanee on Tuesday, Sept. 23. Kickoff is set for 2:00 PM.
