MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Belhaven Baseball team brought the midweek fireworks on Wednesday as they grabbed a run-rule victory over Rhodes, 17-6, in eight innings on the road. The offensive onslaught was led by
Nick Thornton, who had a career day at the plate, going 5-5 with eight RBI and reaching base in all six of his plate appearances.
Belhaven got off to a fast start, plating three runs in the top of the 1st with Thornton driving in his first two runs on the game on an RBI single. Rhodes would quickly answer though, with a big, five-run 1st inning that flipped the momentum right back in the hosts' favor.
The Blazers threw up another three-run frame in the 2nd as
Tristan Pearson delivered an RBI double which was subsequently followed by another two-RBI hit from Thornton. All even after three,
Nick Thornton fired the Blazers in front in the 4th with an RBI single and then doubled the lead in the 6th as he sparked what became a three-run inning for Belhaven.
After a run in the 7th, Belhaven would put the game away in the 8th with a six-run inning that includedÂ
Parker Ryan delivering a two-run single and
Blake McCarthy and
Hunter Harrell each driving in a run.
On the mound, the Belhaven bullpen was dominant from the 2nd inning on, with
