JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven Softball team finished off a season sweep of rival Millsaps on Tuesday as they took down the Majors in run-rule fashion, 12-4, behind a trio of big innings.
After a clean top of the first inning from
Belle West in the circle, the Blazers got off to a fast start at the plate, scoring three runs in the opening frame with a trio of RBI hits from
Ellie Jones,
Kennedy Jones and
Reagan Bryan.
Belhaven would tack on a massive five-run inning in the third kicked off by an RBI double from
Ellie Williamson that led to a pair of runs.
Lauren Dunbar then launched a solo homerun, her 5th long-ball of the year. The Blazers would cap the inning by taking advantage of a defensive miscue by the Majors that scored a run and gave
Anna Caime a chance to deliver another RBI hit.
Millsaps would plate four runs in the top of the fifth, looking to extend the contest but the Blazers matched the Majors' outburst with a four-run frame to end the win.
Maddie Russell's RBI single got the fifth inning started and
Reagan Bryan drove in another run with her third hit of the night eventually leading to the win.
