WILMORE, Ky. - The Belhaven Baseball team powered their way to a series sweep over Asbury on Friday, taking both ends of the doubleheader and scoring 41 runs in the process. The Blazers opened the day with a 24-4 run rule over the hosts in Game One before outscoring the Eagles 17-11 in the final contest of the day.
Game One (W, 24-4 - 7 Innings)
The Blazers' bats were firing early in the opening game of the day, responding after Asbury opened the scoring in the 1st inning, with an 8-run frame in the 2nd.
Blake McCarthy delivered the big blow in the inning with a two-run home that capped off the frame.
McCarthy delivered another run in the 3rd and then the Blazers poured on seven more runs in the 4th with
JD Weed delivering a two-run homer early in the frame and
Dathan Cummings capping off the inning with his first career homer.
The Blazers put the game put the game to bed in the 7th and
Owen Abney launched Belhaven's 4th homer of the game with a three-run shot as Belhaven crossed the 20-run threshold for the second time this season.

The finale of the series was an offensive battle with teams trading runs throughout. Both teams plated five runs in the 1st with
Cole Fletcher delivering a bases clearing double to score three. Belhaven retook the lead in the 2nd as
Tristan Pearson and
Blake McCarthy each drove in a run.
Belhaven grew the lead in the 4th as McCarthy stayed hot, driving in a pair on an RBI single. The Blazers added a run in the 5th before tacking on four more runs in the 8th as
Blake McCarthy hit his second home run of the day.
Cole Fletcher capped off the win with two more RBI as he grabbed his second run-scoring double of the day.

The win puts the Blazers at 13-5 at the end of their conference campaign and with a strong shot at a top two spot in the CCS tournament set to begin in a couple of weeks. The Blazers are 27-11 overall this year which already sees Belhaven surpass their win total from a season ago.
