PEARL, Miss. - The Belhaven Baseball team clinched the Cowboy Maloney Series trophy for a sixth straight season with a 10-5 win over Millsaps in Tuesday's series finale. The win secured the season series for the Blazers, two games to one, and ensured the trophy will remain with Belhaven as it has every year since 2019.

Millsaps picked up a run in the top of the 1st as they kicked off the third game of the season series quickly. Belhaven answered though in the 2nd as Austin Canale drove in a run with an RBI single to tie the game up. 

Belhaven took the lead in the 3rd with a three-run frame as Dathan Cummings and Canale delivered back-to-back RBI hits before a double steal saw Cummings swipe home plate. Leading 4-1 after three, Belhaven tacked on two more runs in the 4th with Nick Thornton and Blake McCarthy providing the run production.

A bases loaded hit-by-pitch from Tristan Pearson and RBI hit from Parker Ryan added a run each in the 5th and 6th giving Belhaven a commanding 8-1 lead. Millsaps pulled two runs back in the 7th but Belhaven was quick to respond with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning. 

In the 8th, Millsaps mounted a rally, scoring twice and threatening for more with bases loaded and nobody out. John Wade came in and got a strikeout and a double play to end of the inning without allowing an inherited runner to score, and then pitched a 1-2-3 top of the 9th to close out the win.

The win improves Belhaven to 24-11 on the season just one win shy of their season total from last season. Next up for the Blazers is a trip to Kentucky as the Blazers finish out the conference regular season slate at Asbury.
