Baseball Takes Fourth Straight CCS Series in Doubleheader Split Against Huntingdon

PEARL, Miss. – The Belhaven Baseball team earned their fourth consecutive CCS series victory on Saturday after taking the opening game of the doubleheader, 17-3, over Huntingdon. Despite a late rally in the series finale, the Blazers fell 12-10 to snap a four-game winning streak.

Game 1: Belhaven 17, Huntingdon 3 (7 Innings)

The Blazers came out of the gates scorching hot, plating nine runs in the first inning and never looking back. Sparked by leadoff hitter JD Weed, who went 3-for-4 with a home run, three RBIs, and a stolen base, Belhaven overwhelmed the Huntingdon starter, who was tagged for seven runs without recording an out.

Dathan Cummings also shined at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI, while Nick Thornton added a 2-for-3 effort with three RBI of his own. Belhaven showcased their depth with contributions up and down the lineup with eight players recording a base hit.

Belhaven's offense didn't let up after the first inning, adding four runs in both the fourth and fifth to seal the deal. Weed's solo homer in the fifth was the exclamation point on an offensive clinic that saw the team rack up 13 hits and 15 runs driven in.

Colton Sylvester delivered another quality start on the mound, going 6.0 innings while scattering six hits and striking out five.

Key Performances Game 2: Belhaven 10, Huntingdon 12

Belhaven opened strong with a two-run first inning, sparked by JD Weed, who stayed red-hot at the plate with a 3-for-5 day, including a double, an RBI, and a hit-by-pitch. Blake McCarthy, Tristan Pearson, Nick Thornton, and Hunter Harrell all had multi-hit games.

Trailing 9-2 after five innings, the Blazers began chipping away at the deficit. Belhaven posted a four-run seventh, highlighted by clutch hitting from Parker Ryan, Josh Neutze, and Weed, and followed it with a two-run eighth courtesy of McCarthy's timely single to right center. That trimmed the Huntingdon lead to just one run at 11–10.

The Hawks were able to tack on a final run late, giving them just enough cushion to hold off Belhaven's ninth-inning attempt. The Blazers went down in order to end the game, but not without giving the crowd an exciting finish.

Key Performances The Blazers will host the rubber match of the Cowboy Maloney Series on Tuesday night. First pitch in Pearl is set for 6:00 PM.
