JACKSON -  Taylor Hopgood of the Belhaven Women's Track and Field team and Briley Oakes of the Belhaven Men's Tennis team have been named the C Spire Athletes of the Week following their strong performances for the Blazers in competition this past week.

Hopgood had a career day in Thursday's Belhaven Twilight. She registered a personal best in the Shot Put with a throw of 8.92 meters to claim the top spot in the event. In the Discus Throw, Hopgood also recorded her personal best as a Blazer with a throw of 34.50 meters.

Oakes helped Belhaven earn a 4-3 win over Hinds last Friday in Raymond. Oakes teamed up with Jesus Diaz to pick up an 8-3 win in the No. 3 Doubles to help the Blazers grab the decisive doubles point. The former Eagle continued his strong performance against his old team with a 6-2, 6-1 win in the No. 4 Singles match.

Hopgood and the Blazers are set to compete this weekend at the Rhodes 7-Way Invitational in Memphis, Tennessee.

Oakes and his teammates will travel to Maryville for a CCS match on April 13th starting at 10:00 AM CT.
