No. 13 Blazers Run-Rule LaGrange in Doubleheader Sweep

LaGRANGE, Ga. - The No. 13 Belhaven Softball team picked up their seventh and eighth run-rule wins in league play on Saturday, downing LaGrange 11-1 and 8-0 in five innings to get to 20-6 on the campaign.

Game One (W, 11-1/5 innings)

Belhaven wasted no time scoring in the opener as they plated two in the first inning. Four crossed the plate in the second to break things open, highlighted by RBI base hits from Ellie Jones and Colby Hollinger. 

RBI singles from Madi Miller and Maci Baldwin added to the lead in the fourth, while Ellie Williamson cleared the bases with an RBI double to push the lead to 11-0. LaGrange plated a run in the home half, but Macy Castleman shut the door in the fifth to secure the run-rule victory.

Belle West picked up the win in 4.0 innings of work, allowing just three hits and one run while striking out two.

Game Two (W, 8-0/5 innings)

The Blazers once again put up a crooked number in the first inning as four scored to give Belhaven an early cushion. Ellie Williamson added the fifth run with an RBI double in the third. Three more crossed the plate in the fifth to push the lead to eight and enforce another early ending as Macy Castleman once again pitched a scoreless fifth in the circle to close out the finale.

Macy Funderburk was nearly unhittable in the circle as she allowed just one hit in 4.0 innings while punching out a pair. Belhaven has now run-ruled four of their first five conference opponents.

Belhaven improved to 20-6 and 9-1 in league play after a 3-1 weekend in Alabama and Georgia. The Blazers will be back in action on Tuesday afternoon when they travel to Shreveport to battle Centenary at 3:00 and 5:00 PM.
