Belhaven Takes Down No. 18 Calvin to Close Florida Trip

Winter Haven, Fla. – Belhaven concluded their trip to Florida with a strong 3-1 win over No. 18 Calvin on Tuesday, leaving the Blazers with a 5-0 record at The Spring Games.

Macy Funderburk was in complete contro in the circlel, throwing a seven-inning complete game while allowing just one run on five hits. She struck out five batters and didn't issue a walk, keeping the Calvin offense off balance throughout the game.

Offensively, Belhaven capitalized on key opportunities. In the third inning, Jordan Kanipe reached on a wild pitch after striking out and came around to score on a clutch RBI single from Anna Caime, giving the Blazers an early lead.

In the fifth, Reagan Bryan led off with a single, advanced to third on a double from Caime, and scored on a sacrifice fly from Colby Hollinger to extend the lead to 2-0.

After Calvin cut the deficit to 2-1 in the sixth, Belhaven responded in the seventh with an insurance run. Caime ripped a two-out double, and pinch-runner Sarah Stockstil came around to score when Hollinger delivered another key RBI double, sealing the 3-1 win.

Belhaven's offense finished with six hits, led by Caime's impressive 3-for-4 performance. The win takes the Blazers to 11-5 on the season and concludes a busy road stretch that saw the Blazers play 11 games across Georgia and Florida since the start of March.
