Blazers Cruise to CCS-Opening Sweep of Wesleyan

JACKSON - The 14th-ranked Belhaven Softball team began Collegiate Conference of the South play in impressive fashion, dominating Wesleyan in a doubleheader sweep to improve to 13-5 on the season and extend their winning streak to seven games.

Game 1: Belhaven 14, Wesleyan 2 (5 innings)

The Blazers wasted no time taking control, scoring in every inning of their five-inning, run-rule victory. After plating one in the first, Belhaven exploded for five runs in the second, highlighted by a two-run single from Ellie Jones and patient at-bats that led to multiple walks and hit batters.

The offensive outburst continued with a four-run third inning, punctuated by Reagan Bryan's RBI double and Colby Hollinger's run-scoring single.

In the circle, Macy Funderburk (8-2) was dominant, striking out 10 batters in four innings while scattering only three hits. Macy Castleman finished the game, surrendering two runs in the fifth but preserving the comfortable lead.

Belhaven's offense was relentless, totaling 10 hits, including multi-hit games from Bryan (2-for-2, 3 R, 2 RBI) and Jones (3-for-3, 3 RBI, SB). The Blazers capitalized on Wesleyan's pitching struggles, drawing 10 walks and getting hit by three pitches.

Game 2: Belhaven 13, Wesleyan 5 (5 innings)

Wesleyan opened up the scoring with a run in the first to take an early 1-0 lead. However, Belhaven's offense remained potent, responding with five runs in the second and another three in the fourth to put the game out of reach.

Anna Caime sparked the five-run second inning with an inside-the-park home run that plated a pair before Kennedy Jones drove in a run with a double. Hanna Levy also starred, going 2-for-3 with a triple and four RBI. Ellie Jones contributed a sacrifice fly and an RBI double, continuing her strong day at the plate.

In the circle, Belle West (5-3) earned the win, allowing just one earned run over four innings while striking out six. Macy Funderburk pitched a scoreless fifth to seal the win.
