JACKSON. - The Belhaven Women's Basketball team dominated from start to finish on Saturday afternoon, cruising past visiting Covenant by a final of 84-40 inside Rugg Arena. The Blazers have now won four straight and are 8-4 in league play.
Belhaven continued their strong finish on Tuesday into the opening minutes of action on Saturday, jumping out to a 13-5 lead at the 6:02 mark of the first. An 8-0 run capped off an impressive first 10 minutes as the Blazers led it 25-12 after one.
Back-to-back threes from
Brookelynn Saxon and
Ashanti Lipscomb pushed the lead out to 31-15 early in the second, and the advantage ballooned to as much as 34 late in the half before Belhaven took a 52-20 lead into the break.
The Green and Gold kept their foot on the pedal as a 10-2 run to begin the second half pushed the lead out to 62-22 with six minutes left in the quarter. All Blazers saw action in the second half as Belhaven coasted down the stretch to the final 44-point margin of victory.
Savannah Hailey finished with a game-high 17 points and six rebounds, while
Ebony Gayden added 12 points and nine rebounds. 13 Blazers found the scoring column in the winning effort.
Belhaven is set to host Huntingdon on Thursday. Tipoff is set for 4:00 PM.
