MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Belhaven Women's Basketball team picked up their third straight win in league play on Tuesday night, downing Huntingdon 90-67 behind a strong second half performance. The Blazers improved to 10-9 overall and 7-4 in CCS play.
Both teams started the game hot from the field as a back-and-forth first 10 minutes ended in 20-19 in favor of the hosts.
Belhaven flipped the script in the second quarter as a free throw from
Savannah Hailey put the Blazers up six at 30-24 with six minutes left in the half. The Green and Gold led by as many as nine in the frame before Huntingdon used a 9-2 run to cut the Blazers' halftime lead to 40-38.
Up 48-44 with six to go in the third, Belhaven rattled of an 8-0 run to take a 12-point advantage.
Kiersten Hudson connected from beyond the arc to put the Blazers up 61-52 after the first 30 minutes of game time.
In similar fashion to Belhaven's strong fourth quarter against Piedmont on Saturday, the Blazers replicated that success on Tuesday by outscoring the Hawks 29-15 across the final 10 minutes.
Chrystianna Beeman gave the Green and Gold their largest lead of the game at 88-62 with 1:21 to go before the Blazers went on to win it 90-67.
Ebony Gayden led Belhaven with 29 points and 12 rebounds, while Hailey continued her recent string of success with 21 points and eight boards. Hudson finished with a season-high 16 points on 4-of-6 from three-point range.
The Blazers return to action on Saturday when they host Covenant. Tipoff inside Rugg Arena is set for 2:00 PM.
