MOUNT BERRY, Ga. – The Belhaven Baseball team (6-3) delivered an explosive offensive performance to secure an 11-7 victory over Berry (7-4) on Friday afternoon in Mount Berry, Georgia.
After falling behind 2-0 in the first inning, the Blazers responded in a big way, plating four runs in the second on a grand slam from leadoff batter JD Weed. Weed had a monster day at the plate, going 4-for-5 with a home run, a double, three runs scored, and four RBI.
Belhaven put up another crooked number in the fourth, with Cole Fletcher launching the second grand slam of the game to cap a five-run outburst. Fletcher finished with four RBI while Hunter Harrell contributed three hits, an RBI, and two stolen bases. Tristan Pearson had a strong day at the plate as well, going 3-for-5 with a run scored.
On the mound, freshman Hudson Conner (1-0) earned the win, tossing 2.1 innings of relief while allowing two runs on three hits. The bullpen held Berry to just one run over the final four innings, with Trey Flettrich closing the door in the ninth.
Berry made several attempts to rally, but Belhaven's early offensive surge proved too much to overcome. The Blazers tallied 16 hits in the game.
The Blazers will look to take home a series win in Saturday's doubleheader. First pitch from Bowdoin Field is set for 12:00 PM with Game 3 to follow.
