Belhaven Drops Riverside Rivalry Despite Robinson's 29 Points

Belhaven Men's Basketball put together a determined second-half rally but couldn't fully erase a large early deficit, falling 88-80 to Millsaps on Tuesday night inside Rugg Arena. The Blazers moved to 2-6 on the season and produced one of their strongest closing stretches of the year, led by junior guard Dan Robinson, who finished with a career-high 29 points.

First Half

Belhaven opened well, trading baskets through the opening 10 minutes. Braylon Dame knocked down an early three, Dan Robinson added one of his own, and Kam Beverly gave the Blazers a lift off the bench with a pair of strong finishes that helped Belhaven hold a narrow 32-30 edge late in the half.

The turning point came in the final four minutes. Millsaps capitalized on turnovers and second-chance looks to string together a 12-1 run, flipping a tight two-point game into a 42-32 deficit. A late free throw from Christian McGahan stopped the stretch, but Belhaven entered halftime trailing 42-33.

Second Half

Millsaps built on its momentum immediately after the break, using another burst of scoring in transition and the paint to extend its lead to 50-33, its largest of the night.

Belhaven responded with its best sustained run of the game. Led by Robinson's relentless downhill drives and midrange scoring, the Blazers pieced together a 15-4 run, trimming the deficit from 17 down to 54-48. DJ Jones added two free throws and later knocked down a three, while Braylon Dame, Neal Terry, and Kaleb King contributed key finishes to keep the push alive.

The Blazers cut the gap to four on multiple occasions, including 61-57 with just over nine minutes left and 72-67 after Jones' second-half three with 5:23 remaining. Each time Belhaven threatened, the Majors answered with key baskets, including a deep three and several timely free throws that pushed the margin back to two or three possessions.

Robinson led one final surge in the closing minutes. He scored seven straight points to trim the deficit to 83-78 with 1:21 left, but Millsaps again steadied itself at the free-throw line. Belhaven was forced to foul in the final minute, and the visitors converted enough chances to hold on for the 88-80 final.

Belhaven looks to bounce back on the road when they travel across the country to Washington for a two-game road trip. The Blazers will take on Whitman on Saturday. Tip-off is set for 3:00 PM.
