JACKSON - Belhaven Women's Basketball improved to 2-0 with a 90-49 win over the University of Dallas on Saturday afternoon. The Blazers controlled the game from start to finish to secure their second straight victory to start the season.
Belhaven shot 44 percent from the field, forced 31 turnovers, and dominated the paint with a 50-22 advantage. The Blazers also scored 32 points off turnovers and 52 from the bench while outrebounding Dallas 47-34.
First Quarter
The Blazers set the tone early, racing out to a 24-13 lead after the opening period.
Ny Jones connected on back-to-back threes to get Belhaven rolling before
Kiersten Hudson and
Savannah Hailey added inside baskets. The Blazers closed the quarter on a 17-6 run behind strong defense that created several fast-break chances.
Kamren Edwards and
Tra'Shaylah Wilson each scored in transition, while
Katelyn Coleman added a free throw to stretch the margin to double digits by quarter's end.
Second Quarter
Belhaven's depth took over in the second frame as the Blazers outscored Dallas 26-11. Hailey,
Amanda Walker, and
Veronica Williams led a surge that quickly extended the lead beyond 20. Hailey's mid-range jumper and fast-break finish capped an 11-2 run midway through the quarter. Hudson's three-pointer and Walker's layup pushed the margin to 40-16, and the Blazers took a 50-24 advantage into halftime.
Third Quarter
Belhaven stayed in rhythm after the break, shooting 53 percent from the field in the third. Hailey scored twice early in the paint and
Kyla Farmer opened the half with a layup to keep the Blazers in control. Jones added a jumper and Hudson created points off turnovers with a steal and assist to Hailey. Later in the quarter, Jenkins and Edwards sparked another run with back-to-back layups, and Ra'Mya King hit a three to push the lead past 35. Belhaven outscored Dallas 22-9 in the quarter to enter the final frame up 72-33.
Fourth Quarter
The Blazers closed the game with another efficient quarter, getting scoring contributions from across the roster. Jenkins and Coleman continued to finish inside, while Walker scored on three straight possessions to help Belhaven reach the 90-point mark. The Blazers' reserves maintained defensive intensity, holding Dallas under 40 percent shooting in the period to seal the 41-point win.
