JACKSON, Miss. - The Belhaven Men's Soccer team defeated cross-town rival Millsaps 1-0 on Wednesday night at Harper Davis Field.
After a first half that saw the Blazers out-shoot the Majors 12-4, Belhaven continued to push forward in search of a breakthrough. The decisive moment came in the 84th minute when
Courtland Williams found the back of the net for the match's lone goal on a free kick, securing the Blazers' seventh win of the season.
Belhaven controlled the pace throughout the night, finishing with an 18-9 edge in total shots and a 6-2 advantage in shots on goal. The Blazers also earned five corner kicks while holding the Majors to just one.
Matt Smith paced the attack with four shots and one on target, while
Samuel Hadley,
Carlos Loza, and
Aidan Holcombe each registered dangerous chances. Defensively,
Danny Bahena anchored the back line, recording two saves en route to his third shutout of the season .
The Blazers hit the road this weekend for a conference match at Asbury on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 3:00 PM.
