MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Belhaven Women's Volleyball team hit the road for a conference doubleheader on Tuesday evening at Catherine Dixon Roland Arena, falling to Huntingdon 3-0.
Belhaven (7-12, 2-4 CCS) opened the evening with a spirited effort, staying within striking distance throughout the match but unable to convert late rallies. The first set remained close early before the Hawks put together a late run to claim a 25-18 win. The second set was the most tightly contested, featuring seven ties and three lead changes, but Belhaven came up just short, 25-21. The Blazers continued to battle in the third set, but a mid-frame surge by the hosts proved decisive in a 25-17 final.
The Blazers posted 30 kills on a .081 team hitting percentage, led by a balanced offensive attack.
Maggie Joy Tomlin paced the team with a career-high seven kills, while hitting .313 on 16 attempts.
Megan LaCour,
Corinne Cason, and
Kylarr Martin each added five kills.
Madison Butler distributed a team-best 15 assists, while
Miriam Ateca added 11 assists and contributed one service ace. At the service line,
Kayla Robinson, LaCour, and Ateca each tallied one ace. Robinson anchored the defense with a match-high 16 digs, followed closely by LaCour with 15 digs and
Jade De La Torre with seven. At the net, LaCour added two block assists, while Martin posted one solo block.
The Blazers are back in action this Saturday when they head to Lookout Mountain, Ga. for a CCS doubleheader. They will take on Covenant at 11:00 AM followed by Wesleyan at 1:00 PM.
