Volleyball Splits Saturday Doubleheader at Covenant

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - The Belhaven Women's Volleyball team wrapped up its weekend road trip with a split on Saturday afternoon, falling in straight sets to Covenant before bouncing back with a dominant sweep over Wesleyan (GA) in the second match. The Blazers move to 8-13 overall and 3-5 in the CCS.

MATCH 1: Covenant 3, Belhaven 0
(19-25, 14-25, 25-23)

Belhaven battled throughout the opening match but came up short in a 3-0 loss to Covenant. The Blazers kept the opening set close before the Scots pulled away late to take a 25-19 decision. Covenant built momentum in the second frame behind a strong offensive stretch, then held off a late Belhaven rally in a tightly contested third set to close the match, 25-23.

The Blazers were led by Maggie Joy Tomlin, who posted a team-high eight kills on a .250 hitting percentage. Kylarr Martin added five kills with two block assists while Cami Davis chipped in three kills and two block assists. Madison Butler distributed ten assists and added two service aces, while Miriam Ateca had eight assists and an ace. Kayla Robinson led the back row with 11 digs, followed by Megan LaCour with nine. At the net, the Blazers combined for eight total blocks, including two solo efforts from White and Martin.

MATCH 2: Belhaven 3, Wesleyan (GA) 0
(25-6, 25-14, 25-23)

Belhaven rebounded with an emphatic performance in the afternoon match, sweeping Wesleyan (GA) to close out the day. The Blazers controlled the pace from start to finish, jumping out to a commanding lead in the first set with a .318 hitting percentage before keeping up the pressure to take the next two frames.

The Blazers hit .247 as a team, their highest mark in conference play this season, and totaled 36 kills and 15 service aces. Maggie Joy Tomlin led the offense again with seven kills on a .545 hitting percentage. Cami Davis added five kills, and both Mickeyla Sitsler and Maya Beane notched 5 kills apiece to fuel a balanced attack. Miriam Ateca recorded a team-high 14 assists and six service aces, while Madison Butler followed with 10 assists and two aces. Kayla Robinson anchored the defense with 15 digs, and Tarryn Woodall and Megan LaCour added multiple blocks at the net to help hold Wesleyan to a -.051 hitting percentage.

The Blazers continue their stretch of road matches when they head to LaGrange on Thursday at 7:00 PM.
