JACKSON - The Belhaven Volleyball team returned home on a high note Thursday night, defeating Huntingdon in four sets (26-24, 26-24, 19-25, 25-22) inside Charles R. Rugg Arena. The win moves the Blazers to 11-17 overall and 6-8 in Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) play.
Belhaven battled through a pair of tightly-contested opening frames, taking both by identical 26-24 scores to seize early control of the match. The Blazers combined for 26 kills over the first two sets while hitting progressively better as the match went on, highlighted by a .206 hitting percentage in the final frame.
The Blazers posted 48 kills as a team, paced by
Megan LaCour, who led the way with nine kills and added 12 digs and two service aces.
Cami Davis followed closely with eight kills on an efficient .500 hitting percentage, while
Tarryn Woodall also tallied eight kills, four service aces, and 13 digs in a standout two-way performance.
Rylee White added seven kills and chipped in a solo block and one assist, while
Madison Butler contributed four kills on a perfect 1.000 hitting line.
The Blazers' offense was fueled by setter
Miriam Ateca, who dished out 17 assists and added five service aces and seven digs.
Madison Butler also set the tone with 15 assists, complementing the team's 13 total aces on the night-six more than their season average.
Defensively, Belhaven recorded 76 digs as a team, with
Kayla Robinson anchoring the back row with a team-high 14 digs and six assists. LaCour, Woodall, and Butler each added double-digit digs, keeping multiple rallies alive throughout the match. At the net, the Blazers posted three total blocks, led by LaCour and White, who each had one block assist.
Belhaven now turns their attention to this weekend's home tri-match vs. both Maryville and Piedmont. The Blazers will host the Scots at 11:00 AM, followed by Lions at 3:00 PM.
