DECATUR, Ga. - The Belhaven Volleyball team wrapped up its weekend road swing with a split on Saturday at Woodruff Gym. The Blazers dropped the opener in three sets to conference leader Asbury before rebounding with a dominant sweep over Agnes Scott to close the afternoon.
MATCH 1: Asbury 3, Belhaven 0
(25-18, 25-17, 25-23)
Belhaven battled tough against one of the top teams in the conference but ultimately fell in straight sets in the opener. The Blazers kept each set competitive, particularly the third, where they led midway through before a late Asbury run secured the sweep.
The Blazers posted 26 kills and finished with a .041 team hitting percentage, totaling 54 digs and eight total blocks in the match.
Megan LaCour led the attack with eight kills and 12 digs, finishing with nine total points.
Rylee White followed with four kills, three block assists, and an ace for six points.
Kylarr Martin added five kills on a .214 hitting percentage, while
Tarryn Woodall tallied four kills, two aces, and nine digs.
Madison Butler and
Miriam Ateca shared setting duties, combining for 24 assists and three service aces.
Kayla Robinson anchored the back row with 16 digs, marking her third-straight match with double-digit digs.
MATCH 2: Belhaven 3, Agnes Scott 0
(25-8, 25-13, 25-12)
The Blazers responded emphatically in the nightcap, sweeping Agnes Scott with a commanding performance fueled by dominant serving and balanced offense. Belhaven hit .321 as a team and recorded a season-high 19 service aces, holding the Scotties to a -.196 hitting percentage.
Maya Beane led the Blazers with nine kills and a .375 hitting clip, while
Rylee White added two kills, four service aces, and two blocks for seven points.
Maggie Joy Tomlin and
Jordyn Crenshaw each added three kills, with Crenshaw contributing two total blocks.
Madison Butler distributed 10 assists and served up two aces, while
Allie Dahlman added five assists and two aces off the bench.
Olivia Johnson made a major impact at the service line, finishing with a career-high six aces, while
Tarryn Woodall and
Kayla Robinson led the defense with six digs each. As a team, Belhaven posted 28 kills, 26 assists, and 21 digs to complete the sweep.
With Saturday's split, Belhaven improves to 10-17 overall and 5-8 in CCS play. The Blazers return home to Charles R. Rugg Arena next Thursday for a standalone conference match vs. Huntingdon at 6:30 PM.
